Ganja can cause psychosis?

Let’s de-bunk (or accept?) this statement:

"The developing teenage brain is highly vulnerable, and heavy teen cannabis use is linked to a higher risk of developing psychotic disorders later in adulthood."

Is this true?

:ganja: let’s beging with the meaning of the word psychosis

Psychosis is a mental state characterized by a disconnection from reality. It is not a specific illness, but rather a collection of symptoms where an individual has trouble distinguishing between what is real and what is not.

:ganja: Key Symptoms

People experiencing a psychotic episode typically display a mix of the following:

  • Hallucinations: Experiencing sensory events that are not real. This most commonly involves hearing voices, but can also include seeing, tasting, smelling, or feeling things that others do not.

  • Delusions: Having strong, fixed false beliefs that are not based on reality and are not shared by others (e.g., believing they are being watched, controlled by an outside force, or hold special powers).

  • Disorganized Thinking: Difficulty concentrating, making sense, or speaking coherently, often jumping rapidly from one unrelated topic to another.

  • Abnormal Behavior: Movements, actions, or emotional responses that are inappropriate or out of character for the situation.

:ganja: Causes and Related Conditions

Psychosis can affect anyone and often emerges in the late teens to mid20s. It can be triggered by several factors, including:

  • Underlying Mental Health Conditions: Such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or severe depression.
  • Substance Use: Withdrawal from or heavy use of alcohol or certain drugs.
  • Medical Conditions or Trauma: Brain tumors, infections, strokes, sleep deprivation, or extreme stress.

:ganja: Diagnosis and Treatment

Treating psychosis effectively often relies on early intervention. Treatment typically involves a combination of antipsychotic medications to manage symptoms, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and family support. Most people who experience a psychotic episode make a full recovery and go on to live normal lives.

:prempavee: At first glance it the effects of Cannabis (containing THC , CBD or CBN) can be partially associated to the symptoms of psychosis, some subjects they can experience some sort of allucinations , delusion, disorganized thinking, abnormal behavior are all things that on different levels of scale can manifest as effects , but we can confirm that those they continue after the “intoxication” fase?

:ganja: Is important to discuss and understand this very well when main medias are telling that to consume ganja during young age can create future consequences as recurring psychosis in adult age

:prempavee: I don’t believe that is true at all. To me is pure anticannabis propaganda

:bud: In fact the effects of Cannabis they are just a “fake” of psychosis and they entirely disappear after full metabolization and there are no permanent brain damages

:ganja: As everyone can easily notice we are living a censorship era and to find on the web study resources and informations that can de-bunk the statement is very hard

:prempavee: So let’s begin to give a proper use of this forum and let’s start to publish studies that show how ganja is in fact beneficial to brain development also for young people and the “memory loss” that every heavy smoker has experienced about is not due a permanent damage and can be naturally reversed just quitting the use for a while

:ganja: Can you help me to find more informations about this topic to publish here?

Also we can add to this discussion about this reflection: those “fake psychosis” caused by ganja are always “disconnections from reality” or there is some truth on those revelations that occur ?

Have the Herb a spirit that talk to us or instead are her effects that allow our mind to go on a deeper level of understanding?

What is Ganja? What happens when we smoke? It helps or not help?

It can be uncomfortable to eat too much ganja but the effect goes away after some time, it’s just being really fuckin high

Having fantasies or making stories in your mind is not psychosis, it’s just fantasy and with practice using ganja can really enlighten people and promote selfdevelopment and awareness that is very much needed in today’s immature societies

At times in my life when popo been breathing down my neck i’ve had reactions of stress when using ganja but it’s not the ganja making that effect it’s the mindset and a crazy world

It’s not paranoia when someone actually is trying to get you

Ganja just amplifies what you allready have

It enlightens you to see yourself more clearly and deeper

Or like Bob Marley said: the herb reveals you to yourself

Very strange how lill focus there is on alcohol and psychosis, that i’ve seen many times

In my almost 30 years experience I’ve witnessed many folks quitting smoking for this very reason (“I just get paranoid”) and/ or having issues while smoking.

After uncountable confrontations with these people and in-depth analysis, I’ve come to these (very personal and definitely non-scientific, even though we can say the method is that of science: thorough observation and comparisons) conclusions:

  1. weed is most likely to trigger such events, less common with hash (unless you smoke a chillum either with a full stomach or you’re not prepared for this way of consumption);

  2. tobacco (if you smoke spliffs rather than joints) can also play a role in this;

  3. I’d say it’s more about a sort of paranoia state than psychosis but definitely people that are more prone to psychosis (family history, personal history, environmental and/or chemical causes) could experience such episodes;

  4. weed/hash work towards the dissolution of your ego: somehow this is a kind of wall we all hit as smokers and only if we are truly dedicated to the plant then it’ll reward us. This means the plant is not for everyone and shouldn’t be marketed/objectified thru commercials and so on: the plant will find you, if you are ready to embrace it. That is why I never initiated not even the closest friend: it is a call you’ll either feel/hear arriving or not;

  5. it does lower blood pressure so episodes of collapses and such must not be confused with psychosis;

  6. if your friends/relatives don’t feel ok during a smoking session you better: have them lay down, legs up and finally throw a pinch of salt under their tongue. They’ll be as new in less than 3 minutes. The salt trick always works (DO NOT USE SUGAR), a moroccan dude in the Rif taught me, apparently it’s a trick commonly known by shisha/hookah smokers)

actual psychosis is extremely rare. what we usually see is people who are being actively abused being treated like criminals for trying to use pot to cope with what is happening to them. this is nothing new, and it ain’t hard to understand.

This is what the legend dr Grinspoon and David Nutter say on Cannabis and brains:grinning_face:, it seems more likely that thc protects neurones , not harming :shushing_face:

Basicly let say if i cause a crime and get caught, and i tell im addicted to cannabis, i will get less severe punishment , this is the case for most european justice systems, eventhou no scientific proof that the aggressor is on psychose due cannabis, justice will say so, and up it is in the stats …

sounds like you’ve only read about this, and you haven’t ever really thought about it or seen it happen.

Yh. I‘ve seen it happen multiple times with different people.

One can argue if it‘s the weed to blame but with some peoples biochemistry it’s just not working out. And that‘s y it‘s so risky in young age aswell.

Man the way weed Hit me in my teen years and early 20‘s was different :joy: I really miss it

They do this kind of propaganda all time. They did also for covid , somebody was sick with the flue but fall under a train and the report … Killed by covid..

Ganja never killed anybody but they tried all time to say she had. Even with Bruce Lee when he died they said because he smoked ganja (later was debunked cause of death for him was probably ibuprophen)

Now in Thailand anticannabis medias (almost all medias) when something bad happens they always try to say that was “marijuana” that’s the way they call it. For example somebody is violent or do a robbery or an accident and he smoked ganja one year ago they said in the titles he did because of “marijuana” but later if you read very well small somewhere they say he was drunk also on alchool or aphetamines..

Ganja makes people dumb sometimes for a short while , not much more

I seen enough in 30 years to say , it is not cannabis . And where is your scientific data to proof it ? There is none , i seen people go k.o. on malawis but they never had a psychose, just panic attacks during high that could lead to silly decisions like goin to emergency and then the doc will say you got a psychose or are addicted or what not, seen that happen, and seen people all nuts and in psychose from hhc or other syntheticals … another fact ,psychos and depressed goths egos using cannabis will always blame cannabis not their inner self … :rofl:

~ the weed is not stronger the users are many more and many are uneducated and respectfully no meaning of insulting , to weak , they do it to be cool and then just come with stories of psychosis caused due a sacred medicine that actually helps people on psychose and not some wealthy rich kid that was to weak to handle true herb … never seen in coffeeshops in netherlands in that 30years plus i smoke having such issues with customers … ye i only read about it :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

:prempavee: Yes. Also when we did the Final event of the 1st Ganja Cup in 2024 we had one man who smoked a dab and felt on the ground telling he was experiencing problems to breath. So we have asked if he took something else he said no but he told he wanted an ambulance.

:ganja: We said that if he had only smoked he does not need the ambulance but to wait a little bit. He and his friends insisted so we called the ambulance for him and he whent to the hospital. At the hospital also he told them filing a report that was ganja that made him sick.

:ganja: they told him the same we was telling him in the farm: to lay down and wait. They also given him a flebo with some liquids (salt and water). He was better in less than two hours and returned to the event.

:ganja: The day after the police visited my farm and was very hard time for a short while and I had to pay I fine, not cheap, to finally agree with them.

:ganja: So I contacted this man again to ask how he felt that day. During the call he confessed that he took another medicine, he mixed several things like shrooms , alchool and benzodiazepine but he didn’t tell to the hospital because he was scared of the police.

:ganja: So at the end officially he had problems “because of ganja”..

Thats really sucky to hear! Glad you made it through that !! But yes all cases i seen like that was due to overusage of all kinds of substances,and cannabis being the least severe punished , they will mostly tell cops they just used cannabis …

High and welcome here mate :victory_hand::dashing_away:

This video is so on spot about this nonsense psychosis and schizophrenia. proof is in the pudding

In europe the medical systems, law, anti this and anti that have been pushing this agenda for decades. They find something new all the time

They wrongfully been scaring people so much that many think that cannabis has caused their psychosis but it’s the medicine they eat or other drugs or even just effect from being scared about having psychosis

If you repeat something to the public again and again, they’ll slowly start believing even the most stupid lies

Only one thing is for sure, they all suffer from the same thing and it’s called HYSTERIA :exploding_head:

Oh that is a classic, hiding what they really been taking and blaming it on ganja

This just shows once again the idiocrazy of any drug being illegal, it only make things worse and doesn’t benefit either addicts or society

Hey good morning…

A great report… :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands::green_heart:

I am one of the people who was born with fibromyalgia.

I grew up in the 70s together with Rastafarians and Moroccan people and hippies… Since my earliest youth I have been using Mama Gunja as medicine.

Due to my illness fibromyalgia, I have also suffered from severe depression since childhood.

For me, I have already experienced in my youth that Mama gunja helps me a lot when I am depressed again or have a flare-up (pain flare-up sometimes lasts between 3-6 months).

So I can make the statement for myself that consumption (whether high or low is debatable) does not necessarily cause something like this… I see the cause of this in our genetics.

So that I would like to say that there is a yes but also a clear no to it…

I would like to add that I still use mama gunja as a medicine today…

We are only at the beginning and can do so much more…

To be considered “normal” in a western society that is intent to exploit and step on the backs of others is to partake in mass psychosis, the free mind that chooses a different path gets the “psychotic” label though. Mental health language is increasingly used to suppress the rights of the oppressed. This is why I will never in my life call any my struggles a mental breakdown. Breaking down in this society is a sign you are still human.
