Ya kinda kept them to long in veg and the strain description said less then 8 weeks in flower. For future reference here is info regarding trichome development:
Do They All Go Milky?
• Staggered Maturation: Trichomes do not develop or ripen all at once. While some clusters on a bud might reach a fully milky state, other newer ones underneath or on lower branches may still be clear or transitioning.
• Moving to Amber: As you wait for the final lagging trichomes to turn milky, the earliest milky trichomes will naturally begin shifting to amber. Because of this overlap, it is uncommon to find a plant where 100% of the trichomes are milky with zero clear and zero amber anywhere on the buds.
• Strain Exceptions: Certain exotic strains with pink, purple, or colorful trichomes may not follow the standard clear-to-milky-to-amber rule and can look different throughout their lifecycle.
Salmon Creek Big Bud (Copa) #1 “crinkle” pheno, is the name I’m calling it due to the weird crinkly leaf it had through veg and most of flower! I saw a post from a big breeder who mentioned seeing the trait before in certain afghan plants I believe, can’t remember who it was right now. I’d guess they’re at mid week 6 almost 7 flower based on counting back to the day I saw first flowers stacking. Anywhere between August 20th-23rd was “Day 1”. This one seems like it will finish a week or so faster than the #6. I’m going to try to hold out for as long as possible, if 3 days of constant rain stays in forecast for Sunday-Tuesday I might chop Saturday the nicest colas and leave the rest of it and entire #6 plant to finish. This #1 plant had a tiny spot of botrytis on a side branch top from a caterpillar that chewed the leaf below. I haven’t sprayed anything on these plants not even BT, I go out daily once sundown and use a 365nm UV flashlight to spot any caterpillars and hand remove. Over last 3 weeks I’ve found 6 total, they’re tiny loopers and not borers thankfully so they chew some fresh pistils or a fan leaf. I’ve found tons of lacewing larvae and spiders though so I assume the less amount of caterpillars is due to them. The amount of botrytis was less than the size of a quarter so far and hopefully that’s all! I cut a node below and discarded the entire top spot, other than that completely spotless from PM too. Hope everyone has a happy harvest
Slower but seems like it will be more dense compared to the #1. Both have similar terpene profiles so far, like a sweet kind of musky/ berry perfume. Copa said on IG that the ones finishing late October were the better ones.
Indoor strawberry freak is crazy, really funny after such a "boring" veg phase "patience is real, perfection is a delusion", even trichomes start to appear on fan leafs ! . Have a blessed weekend folks !
Salmon Creek Big Bud F3 seeds developed within 26 days of pollination. The F2’s copa released were worked more than F2 technically but it’s an F3 I have two separate phenotype lines to work with now both very different expressions.
Smelled similar but later on with the grape kind of musky smell, this also has a tiny bit of citrus and a plastic kind of smell, very unique. This plant got over 7ft tall and could’ve flowered more and just put on immense weight, it definitely is the “Big Bud” pheno. The plants did incredible with zero PM or severe pests issues at all, one caterpillar caused a tiny spec of botrytis and once removed it didn’t spread at all. They put on great structure for being only in 7 gallon rain science bags for flower. First harvest down, now to hopefully nail the dry and cure. Grown fully organic, no pesticides, no sprays, KNF/JADAM only.
