Cannabis contains the physical hardware of a halophyte

We’ve heard cannabis is a super accumulator and alkaloid producer. But now we have physical proof that cannabis has the hardware of a halophyte salt loving desert or salt marsh plant because cannabis can excrete salts through its non glandular trichome stalks. This was always the purpose of these structures.

I’m pushing back on the idea that the plant doing what it was born and created to do with special hardware is a bad idea. It’s never a bad time to make your plant vigorous, healthy and therefore full of alkaloids. Ice Cold

I need to try this next season! Tons of brackish marsh area around. Is there any specific genetics (not modern I assume) that are more tolerable to the higher salt naturally without breeding for it?

I have observed this on flowers. Some salt based grow ganja flowers they look like covered of more “solid” trichomes .. but are not trichomes but toxic salts  better to avoid this kind of ganja unless you want to smoke fertilizers ..

That is cool info!

Could it maybe explain why ganja grown with salts also can burn throat and lungs if not flushed properly ?

Yes absolutely , and I think is also the reason why many growers and old school smokers they say that the ganja who grow far away from the ocean is better than the one that grows near the ocean.

“A halophyte is a salt-tolerant plant that thrives in highly saline soils or waters, such as coastal marshes, estuaries, and inland salt flats. Making up only about 2% of plant species, these plants survive by adapting to excrete, compartmentalize, or filter out excess salt.”

Ganja is tolerant and has this properties , but as we can see demostrated in that research those salts even are excretas from the body of the plant they crystalize on the surface, so later you smoke them.
