With all the journalism and activism concerning our beloved herb , this topic is not much talked about , rather interests me very much.
Copycats a bad thing? Hard to say? Do they sell at extreme high prices , do they select the pirated or bought genetic further on ? And does it offer what people look for after they grew 4 to 6 months this " product" .
I have nothing against it ,im personally not a fan and will not buy but after all once you bought the seed its yours , simple. Will i advise other people ? Depends the person asking me mainly, but mostly for heavy medical patients growin own medicine its a no go .
White label: buying seeds from a breeder or bulk producer to relabel as your own brand .
If its a good source or the seller is not pretending to be a cannabis breeder , thats fine
Pretending to be the breeder is rather a lack of morale and respect towards his/ her innerself and unfair towards people that breed for real .
From the internet I learn from some articles that the difference is that “copycat” has been done without the consent of the parts and “white label” under their previous agreement. But in both cases they can hide the source.
I did not know that. For me white labeling was meaning to write about the source clearly. Seems not to be exactly like that.
Basically all electronics like Apple, or other brand technology is 99% white label
In that sector is generally accepted. About seeds and breeders I believe is counterproductive. My opinion is that is much better to mention always the source because that can help the growers to know what they grow.
White label is not producing a product. Buy at factory and sell under other label.
For example im a store with own housebrand , i do not own a factory , i buy bulk lets say milk from a big milkproducer but name it under brand of my store, yet the adress and name of factory is on the package in small letters . This happens for seeds, nutrients even rolling papers in our community
Yes , it happens in all sector. I know at supermarket some products they label different yogurt and juice and snack brand for example but them make in the same factory with the same ingredient everything the same, just change the packaging and the branding..
Is legal, but I think not very fair. Is one of the contradiction of capitalism: people buy the packaging more than the product itself
For some products sometime it make sense. For example if you buy an Iphone is white label from China. But if you buy the same mobile directly from the fabric you don’t get same customer assistance. So in some case white label can be justified that way. You get different customer service
About “pretending to be a breeder” I think we should open another dedicated topic. I think the word “breeder” is interpreted with many different angles and levels by everybody different. Little bit same of the word “landrace” : will need a lot of debate before we get a global agreement of our community on when is correct to use those words
