Erva de tijolo - is pressed weed really that bad?

Is pressed weed really that bad?

Why so much prejudice?

Does pressing the weed really spoil it, or is it the way it's stored and transported that has a greater influence?

In Brazil, it's a very popular type of weed due to its easy access and low cost, but many complain that it's not the best or most flavorful, even though some pressed weed is better than some fresh weed.

Have you ever tried it?

What do you think of this storage and transportation method?

Does this type of weed still exist in Europe and other countries?

What do consumers think of this type of weed?

Here we have two different qualities of brick weed, one more compact and the other a little less compact.

Image 1: Known and sold as "Skunk Gold" or "Colombinha," strong smell, intense flavor, and a strong high like a punch.

Image 2: Known as pressed weed, its quality varies due to many factors; some are terrible, others may surprise you.

I doubt there is much, if any pressed ganja being produced in the US. The general population seems to value bag appeal (ganja being pretty and aromatic) and potency over anything else. There's a stigma around brick weed from way back when it was the worst of the worst that was available. That said, I've smoked a bit of brick back in my high-school/college years, and there were several occasions that I preferred it over the premium "dank" that was available (it's worth noting that I lived in the middle of nowhere, so you got what the weed-guy had and you were happy to have it.)

Hello and welcome

The first picture looks like very high quality

I visited Phuket Thailand 20 years ago and all i could get was very hard pressed brick full of seeds, some of it even looked like mold. However the effect was surprisingly nice

I think this was a fine art before prohibition came along

When illegal it's safer to ship and sell hard pressed with low smell

I doubt they used hydraulic press 100 or more years ago

In humid climates i think it's done to cure it and make it smokeable, as normal flower would become wet from air humidity

In Thailand we have a long tradition about bricks. From before Prohibitionism apparently was some culture about pressing ganja inside bamboo or wrapped on other plants leaves and also pressed.

Because was no refrigerator or glass jars that was a good method.

Also I heard stories about bury the ganja under the ground, or tide up to a tree for long term aging even more than two or three years, but I don't know too much as this knowledge is hidden and hard to be discovered. Maybe some people that still live in the forest they know better, not sure.

What I definitely know are the bricks hydraulic pressed

During the 60's and 70's when the farmers of my district where producing tons they was not using that method too much but more commonly they where making Thai Sticks

Anyway seems that the hydraulic press is used to make bricks in Thailand at least from one century or maybe longer

They become more popular during the 80s the whole way to the first decades of the 2000 because prohibitions where more rush so space optimization was a must

Most of time this briks where (and are) made in dirty processing facilities with low quality product with any sort of contaminations and wrong practices

Anyway is not always the case. Brick are just pressed weed, so you can also have good quality brick weed if you use good quality ganja and everything clean and respectfully

For this reason we have some true lovers of the bricks even now that is legal and technically they are not anymore a necessity

Especially bong smokers they seems to love them and many times prefer them over the regularly dried flowers

A less pressed brick is generally considered of higher quality , but is less efficient for warehouse space and shelf life

So for me the answer to your question is:

Brick weed can be bad as can be good depend with what and how was made. Also some people that look for specific characteristics they may prefer them.

One problem with the brick is that is easier to hide small problems of the ganja, as they become pressed you cannot see small bugs or other issues the same you will be able to see them on a jar flower.

So, paradoxically, if you like bricks you should trust your source even more.

How good quality bricks are traditionally made:

Here in this video you have an example of a very good quality brick made with Landrace Squirrel Tails Phuphan , grow organic in the mountain

This flowers have been selected to be the most clean and the press, inside the traditional wood stamp, is not too hard

The string is added on request of the customer to show that this ganja is the original genetic that was used to make Thai Sticks
