I have some seeds coming in from around the world and I’m considering breeding. Mostly to restock my seed supply, but I might try breeding my own strain somewhere down the line. What I’m curious about is, once I’ve isolated the males and collected pollen from them, how long can I safely store the pollen before it’s no longer viable?
This is good question. I don’t know for real so we will need others to come and answer. Anyway I think the preservation method makes the difference
I‘d get roasted in my German Grow Community if i‘d ask that. The answer i‘d get would allways be „just don‘t“.
Use it Straight away.
Did hear alot can keep 6 months ish max in fridge , dunno id say its more optimal to use immediately thou , shuld ask AI once to see for fun ![]()

People do preserve the pollen for long time. You need to preserve them correctly!!! dry the pollen then wrap it in the paper like the envelope and put in a zip lock bag or vac seal and put them in the freezer. When you want to use it take the pollen out. let the pollen get to the room temperature then use it straight away. People do mix flour with the pollen too. Even then some pollen might not viable. After we dry the pollen out, We keep our pollen in plastic coin case and vac sealed. We keep them away from direct sunlight and in dark room. We only keep them for 1 year if we have to . Best to use them straight way
Thats what AI just told me haha , ok so thats viable with the flour then ?
What does the flour do? Increase volume? Make it easier to gather?
we never use it or stored it for long time. We only stored it for 1 year that is just in a darkroom . @Khalifa_Genetics got great video on YouTube explaining everything you need to know how to stored them. Check it out ![]()
Thanks for the tip.
Nice one m8 ! Not into breeding but sure will check it out , cool to know that now !
Age restricted
soon we will be able to upload all this King of material directly here ![]()
Hey guys! Indeed, you can store pollen for up to a couple of years in the freezer. As long as the pollen in dry and kept at a constant temperature (No swings), it can remain viable for a couple of years!
Years if handled right Many articles on the process in the internet. Explore and choose one that makes sense to you.
Get a small thermos you can store pollen bottles in, into the freezer. Dessicant packs or rice kernels to prevent moisture. In your vials Let come to room temperature before applying
This grower has some good tips for collecting pollen
